Reflect & Restart: Using Connection as a Strategy to Recharge Your Business

Updated: Dec 9, 2024

The Power of Connection: Overcoming Loneliness for Female Founders

Sometimes, the hardest part of entrepreneurship isn’t the hustle—it’s the loneliness. That quiet sense of being isolated, even when surrounded by others, can sap your creativity, your energy, and your motivation. But here’s the truth: connection isn’t just a remedy for loneliness; it’s a tool for restoration and growth.

In the spirit of “Reflect and Restart” - our December Theme, let’s take a moment to pause, look inward, and consider how building meaningful connections can rejuvenate not just your business, but your entire mindset.

As a bonus, I’ve included a video presentation I created based on Together: The Healing Power of Human Connection in a Sometimes Lonely World by Vivek Murthy for my MS Entrepreneurship graduate program assignment. We were to create a mini-TEDtalk on the impact of the book and organizational excellence- my insights focused more on the impact of organizational excellence for entrepreneurs, not corporations. I hope you find it as insightful as I did!

Step 1: Reflect on Your Connections

Before we can restore, we need to reflect. Ask yourself:

  • Who supports you emotionally and professionally?

  • Who challenges and inspires you to grow?

  • Are there gaps in your network where you feel unsupported or unseen?

It’s okay to notice the empty spaces. Awareness is the first step to change.

Step 2: Restore with Small Acts of Connection

Restoring your sense of community doesn’t require grand gestures. Small, meaningful actions can create powerful ripples.

  • Send a thoughtful message. Reach out to someone who inspires you or whose presence you miss. A simple “I thought of you” can go a long way.

  • Reconnect over coffee. Be proactive—schedule that meet-up you’ve been putting off. Bonus: book the next one while you’re there to keep the connection going.

  • Extend an introduction. Know two people who would benefit from meeting? Introduce them. Connection thrives on shared opportunities.

Step 3: Create Space for Yourself

Connection isn’t just external; it starts within. Loneliness often creeps in when we’re disconnected from ourselves. Take time to embrace solitude—not isolation, but intentional, restorative alone time.

  • Journal about what’s been draining you and what’s been inspiring you.

  • Meditate on the kinds of relationships you want to nurture.

  • Allow yourself to rest without guilt. Restoration begins when we stop trying to “do it all.”

Connection as a Business Growth Strategy

Here’s the game-changer: connection doesn’t just help you feel better—it helps you be better. Surrounding yourself with aligned individuals fosters creativity, resilience, and the kind of support that can transform your business.

Reflect on who you need in your corner:

  • Mentors to guide you.

  • Peers to share the journey with.

  • Supporters to cheer you on.

By building these connections, you’re creating a foundation for sustainable business growth.

Take One Restorative Step Today

Connection is an investment—one that pays dividends in your energy, creativity, and success. So, as you reflect and restore, take one small action:

  • Reach out to someone.

  • Make space for solitude.

  • Or simply show yourself the kindness you so often extend to others.

And always remember: You are courageous. You are capable. You are strong.

Reflection fuels restoration, and connection sparks transformation. Let’s create space for both—and build a future where you thrive, not just survive. 💛
