Mindful Technology: How to Harness AI Without Losing Your Sh*t

Maximize AI's Benefits While Staying Mindful and In Control of Your Business

Mindful technology or totally mindless? For many of us technology can be beneficial or totally debilitating. AI is everywhere and it can be a powerful tool to support your business. But like every tool, it’s only as good as the person wielding it (that’s you, by the way). Let’s go over some real-world uses for AI, the pros and cons, and how to stay mindful in this AI-crazy world.

AI & Automation: YES, It’s Your Time Saver

Using AI for automation? Absolutely. If you’re running a small business or side hustle, you know systems and processes are your lifeline. Platforms like ClickUp handles project management, and honestly, it’s a game-changer. We’ve set up automations that keep things organized and running smoothly. This is where AI shines—taking the mundane tasks off your plate so you can focus on what really matters: growing your business. There are other platforms, besides ClickUp, that can help with project management like: Asana, Airtable, and Monday.com

AI for Spellcheck & Grammar: Kinda, But Don’t Rely on It

Quick confession—I’ve been blogging for ages, but my grammar still isn’t perfect. Grammarly is a daily must for me, but it doesn’t catch everything. That’s where a good ol’ human eye comes in. If you’re using AI to help tighten up your writing, great! But don’t let it become your only tool. Having someone else (a friend, team member, or fellow founder) check your work can save you from those awkward “did I really write that?!” moments.

AI for Accuracy: Nope, Not 100% Trustworthy

Here’s a shocker: AI isn’t always accurate. I was doing some math for a finance class, and ChatGPT (aka “Chad”) gave me the WRONG answer. Yes, a computer got math wrong. 🤯 Just like you wouldn’t rely on your GPS if it led you to the middle of nowhere, you can’t trust AI to be 100% right all the time. Always double-check critical info—especially when your business is on the line.

AI for Brainstorming & Delegation: YES, Bring on the Ideas

Now, this is where AI truly shines. Need content ideas? Marketing strategies? Product concepts? AI is like having a brainstorming partner who never sleeps. I use it for everything from SEO strategy to social media captions. It’s a great way to spark new ideas when your creative brain feels tapped out.

AI & Ethics: The Sticky Question

Here’s the biggie—ethics. Is it okay to let AI do the heavy lifting? That’s up to you. AI can help generate ideas, but is it ethical to use it for tasks where you should be the driving force? If you’re a web or graphic designer, and you rely on AI to produce entire projects, where’s the line between inspiration and plagiarism? It’s a question each of us has to answer for ourselves.

Like Mark Twain said, “There is no such thing as a new idea… We simply take old ideas and give them new combinations.” So, think of AI as a way to shuffle the pieces, but not as the creator of your entire masterpiece.

AI for Mindful Moments, Not Mindless Use

Now, let’s pause for a quick reality check—how are you using AI? Are you letting it help you, or are you using it as a crutch? Here’s a little mindfulness exercise to try:

1. How do I mindlessly use AI or technology?

2. How do I mindfully use it to support my business and personal goals?

3. What’s one small change I can make today to be more intentional with my tech use?

You could even use some platforms to help with mindfulness like: Headspace, Moodfit, and Balance App. Or, use HeyFocus to help keep your web browsing to a minimum while working.

Wrapping It Up: You’re the One in Control

Here’s the takeaway: AI is a tool. It’s powerful, but only if you’re in the driver’s seat. Use it to make your business stronger, to streamline your processes, and to save you time—but don’t let it make you doubt your own abilities. You’re courageous, capable, and strong. AI can’t change that!
