Mindfulness in Minutes: Build Your BFD Ring
At Built on YES, we talk a lot about protecting your energy, but today’s mindfulness minute is about who gets access to it.
Why the People at Your Table Matter
As female founders and entrepreneurs, we spend a lot of time in meetings, networking events, interviews, lunches—you name it. These can be draining, especially when the table you’re sitting at isn’t aligned with your values.
But when you sit with BFDs (Big F*cking Deals), the conversations shift. These are the women who ask, “How can I support what you're building?” and mean it. There’s no agenda. Just aligned energy and real support.
Comparison Lunch Club vs. Big Dream Builders
If you’ve ever left a lunch feeling heavier—not just physically, but emotionally—it might be time to check who’s in your inner circle. We’ve all been there: stuck at a table with people who thrive on gossip, reliving the same drama from 2014, and asking questions like “Is she cute or is she fat?” instead of “What are you creating right now?”
It’s easy to stay out of obligation, comfort, or because you’ve known someone since college. But that doesn’t mean they belong in your BFD ring anymore.

Try This: The BFD Relationship Ring Inventory
(A Mindfulness Exercise for Female Founders)
Visualize yourself like Saturn—with rings around you representing the people in your life.
Now ask yourself:
Who’s in your inner ring?
Do they support, challenge, or celebrate you?
Who drains you?
Do you feel judged, heavy, or uninspired after spending time with them?
Who’s orbiting too far but deserves to be closer?
Maybe someone who always leaves you fired up after a quick catch-up.
Who are you keeping close out of history, not harmony?
You can be grateful for the past and clear space for your future.
Permission granted: Move people. Rotate rings. Protect your energy like it’s equity in your next venture—because it is.
Final Reminder:
Your energy is a limited resource. Treat it like capital. Spend it on people and conversations that expand your vision, not shrink your worth.
Sit at the table where support is real, dreams are welcomed, and conversations don’t start with judgment—they start with intention.
You are courageous. You are capable. You are strong. Build your business and your circle accordingly.
